Today is our 14th anniversary, counted from our first date, where we hiked to the top of a hill in the redwoods, sat together and felt our paths align. This photo was taken by a beloved friend right around that time, 2006 in San Francisco's East Bay. We started #PleasureMechanics three months later. Ours was never a traditional romance, but rather a creative partnership and collaborative approach to creating and devoting these lives of ours to something bigger. As our daughter completes early childhood and we feel our creative focus shift again, we are actively asking and surrendering to what the next era of our lives will hold, what we are being called to create, and recalibrating towards our values. Huge love and gratitude for all of you for being part of our lives, for walking this earth and breathing with us just as you are. You are loved.

7 years ago, On the 7 year anniversary of our first date we got married in an intimate ceremony overlooking the Hudson River. We got married primarily to play along with New York State laws, because as a married couple we could share custody of our child without an adoption. We also both legally changed our names and took on a new family name, reflecting our shared commitment to creating a new family line together rooted in reverence and queer love. We distilled our vows down to three words: Cherish, Support, Adventure. I made a bouquet for Char, she glittered in the autumn sun, and I donned a vintage tux. We each invited an old college friend to witness and anchor the ceremony. In true PM style we diy’d it all, hauling tripods on the wedding walk to capture the moment. We celebrated with homemade truffles and a delicious meal, then woke up the next day and went back to the work of loving one another and the world. Ultimately, we believe the institution of marriage needs to be remade, rights like healthcare@divorces from relationship status, we need more rituals and commitments that support healthier kinship and family structures. But since we had to go through some hoops as legal citizens, we took the moment to create a meaningful ritual that anchored our own commitments about making a family together. A few months later, after years of trying, Charlotte was pregnant. 7 years later, our daughter is a radiant forcefield of love and joy, the most beautiful blossom on the Rose family vine. Looking forward to seeing what the next 7 years hold. #Anniversary #QueerMarriage #GayMarriage #QueerFamily #RethinkMarriage #CreativePartnership #PleasureMechanics #LoveRitual #RitualizeYourLife #LoveAsCeremony #LoveArtLab
